We use only superfine quality alpaca for our knitwear and handspun sheep’s wool for our handcrafts. We feel these quality materials compliment the high standards of our artisans. Alpaca fleece is a fiber, similar to sheep’s wool in some respects, softer and silkier to the touch, far warmer yet with minimal lanolin which makes it practically hypoallergenic.

happy on a swing All the colours we use are naturally dyed except for the blues. We dye the fibers by hand using such traditional and natural ingredients as walnut leaves, thola and tara-tara, as well as the renowned insect dye cochineal for the red tones. We hand dye all of our yarns in our workshop using a variety of techniques to acquire a wide selection of colours and tones. Our years of experimentation have resulted in a wealth of knowledge and range of colours of which we are very proud. The natural ingredients that we use for dying vary depending on environmental factors: such as time of year, rainfall and soil. We work hard to ensure that the colours are true representations of those on our colour card, however slight natural variation is unavoidable (colour card available on request). The natural dyes that we use are kinder on the environment and the yarn than chemical dyes, and ultimately kinder on the skin of the wearer. If you would like to view a video of a visit to our workshop, view this clip from one of our tours.
Many of our handcrafts are made from traditional handwoven fabrics that are made from handspun sheep’s wool. This "bayeta de la tierra" is woven on a floor loom. We buy it from the weavers and then dye it ourselves before using it to make our wall hangings, dolls and other utilitarian items.
